CONTAINER GARDENING FOR NOVICES
There is no easier place to start gardening than in a container. Not only will you enjoy instant gratification, but you can fit your flower-packed creation into the tightest of spaces. Depending on what type of container you use, container gardens can be relatively inexpensive. You can make eye-catching container plantings with the latest-and-greatest annuals, but do not overlook tried-and-true annuals like impatients and wax begonias. Also, be sure to add plants with handsome foliage, such as dwarf cannas, coleus, and ornamental sweet potatoes.
Designing is simple. How you place your plants will be determined by how your container is viewed. If you get a 360 degree view, you want your tall plants in the center your mid-growing plants next and your trailing plants last. If you get a one sided view or if your container is against a wall you will simply place your tall plants in the back, your mid-growing plants in the middle, and your trailing plants in the front. And remember the 3, 5, & 7 rule; things are always more appealing in odd numbers.

QUICK CONTAINER CULTURE:
Flowers growing in containers need a bit of special attention to look their best. Here are a few quick tips:
- Whether you are growing in urns or window boxes, make sure every container has a hole in the bottom.
- To make large container lighter and easier to move and to provide excellent drainage, fill the bottom with Styrofoam packing peanuts.
- Containers need regular watering: daily or even twice a day in hot weather. Products such as water retaining crystals or gel spikes can help to lengthen the time in between watering.
Since watering flushes nutrients out of the soil, feed containers with a diluted liquid fertilizer every week or two. As an alternative to weekly feeding, you can add a slow release fertilizer to your potting mix. These products generally last 3-4 months and will keep your plants full of vital nutrients.
FALL MAGIC PLANTS FOR CONTAINERS:

Here are some examples of the variety of containers we have...No more boring outdoor containers!
Glazed: This handmade and frost resistant pottery is designed for all weather. The clay and its method of firing are two of the variables that enables the all weather outdoor pottery to withstand any type of freezing winter conditions and ellevate the extreme drying conditions of blazing summers.
Terra Cotta: These pots are porous so they dry out faster than plastic or other non-porous types, especially in direct sun, and that can rob moisture from the soil, so make sure you water frequently. They tend to get heavy when filled with soil.
And don't forget the Saucer: The use of saucers are also good for the hotter months, as the saucer will assist in keeping the soil moist, which allows the plants to drink more often. During winter months, in frost areas, it is recommended to remove saucers.
