Atlantic Orchid + Garden & Apiopolis Offer Natural Beekeeping Classes!

Alice Hinman of APIOPOLIS

We are excited to announce our new buzz: AOG is joining efforts with Apiopolis to help honeybees and other pollinators by setting up our own apiary! And we want to share the bee love by becoming your local source for beekeeping equipment + supplies. AOG is now an authorized dealer of employee-owned Mann Lake’s beekeeping supplies. Supplies will begin arriving at the end of March.
Ready to try your hand at beekeeping or make some better for the bees changes at your home apiary? We won’t just give you the best supplies–we’ll also help you learn about beekeeping with classes from Apiopolis founder and bee-expert, Alice Hinman. Alice will lead a workshop series on natural beekeeping practices that will be ongoing throughout the season. PLUS we’ll also offer specialty classes on pollinator-friendly plantings.
starts Sunday, February 26 at 2:00 pm $80 for 4 sessions
(Every Sunday at 2pm for one month)
In these classes, you will learn the basics of beekeeping with an emphasis on sustainable practices that support the health and well-being of the colony. We’ll cover:
  • honeybee biology + anatomy
  • honeybee health + nutrition
  • beekeeping equipment + hive set-up
  • hive management practices
  • and pests + diseases
Bee Packages
There will be a limited number of natural, chemical free, small-cell size bee packages that will begin arriving at the end of March and will be offered to workshop participants first. Optional workshop add-ons include a 3 lb pack of small-cell size bees, a full hive set-up, and all the accessories you’ll need to get started as a beekeeper! Packages are $120 + +$20 for delivery
Alice Hinman is a natural beekeeper trained in sustainable and biodynamic beekeeping practices by Gunther Hauk and founder of Raleigh’s nonprofit urban bee sanctuary, Apiopolis.
